Project Update: Public Engagement
On March 21st, CivicLex presented an update to LFUCG’s planning commission about Public Engagement in the Urban Growth Plan so far. Our overall approach to public engagement for the Urban Growth plan is to build on the experience and data from On the Table 2022, a public engagement opportunity where thousands of Lexington residents gathered to weigh in on how they want to see Lexington grow and change. We want to get a more specific, prioritized understanding of the On the Table data, along with new voices for weighing in about the areas specifically recommended for expansion.

CivicLex and a Graduate Class at the University of Kentucky are subcoding the more popular topics of the On the Table data. So far, we have learned about
Walkability, Bikeability, Accessibility: the number one most requested change for walkability, bikeability, and accessibility in Lexington is more bike paths, followed by more sidewalks and better bike lanes. Only .9% of all On the Table participants specifically stated that they are against increasing walkability and bikeability.
Public Transportation: the number one most requested change for public transportation in Lexington is improving and expand Bus service, as requested by 1,806 responses. Only .6% of all On the Table participants specifically stated that they are against increasing or expanding public transportation in Lexington.
Amenities and Quality of Life: the number one most requested change for amenities and quality of life in Lexington is broadly “more things to do”, including activities, events, festivals, and entertainment.
